Texas City is a large city positioned along the shores of Galveston Bay in southern Texas. It is 45 miles south of Houston and sits in Galveston County. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were approximately 48,262 people living in Texas City in 2016.
Texas City traces its history to the late 1800s when three brothers from Duluth, Minnesota saw the area of modern-day Texas City was full of potential. The brothers envisioned the area serving as a major port. In 1893, the brothers and other shippers from the Duluth area purchased 10,000-acres of land and named the area Texas City. That same year the Texas City Improvement Company filed the first townsite plat and a post office was opened shortly after. In 1911, Texas City became incorporated.
