Hitchcock is a small city in southeastern Texas. It is positioned along the shores of Galveston Bay and sits in Galveston County. The City of Houston is located 38 miles north of Hitchcock. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were almost 8,000 people living in Hitchcock in 2016.
Hitchcock is located in an area that was settled in the mid-1800s. A group of French settlers arrived in the area after Jonas Butler acquired a portion of land on Highland Bayou. The community of French settlers and Jonas Butler became known as Highland. In the 1870s, the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway built through the community. About three years later the community was renamed Hitchcock after Emily Hitchcock donated a 450-foot wide tract of land to establish a townsite. The town was named in honor of Emily’s husband per her request. In 1960, Hitchcock became incorporated.
Modern-day Hitchcock is a beautiful city. It is located near shopping and dining opportunities and attractions like the Johnson Space Center, Kemah Boardwalk, and Moody Gardens. According to the city’s website, Hitchcock is home to several school facilities and plans new construction in the coming years. Hitchcock is located in a region of the United States that experiences very warm temperatures and high humidity levels during the summer seasons. Daytime temperatures range from the upper-80s to mid-90s during the months of June, July, and August. Precipitation is common in addition to warm temperatures.
